According to the site...

"The Morgan Quitno Safest City Award is based on a city’s rate for six basic crime categories: murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary and motor vehicle theft. All cities of 75,000+ populations that reported crime data to the FBI for the six crime categories were included in the rankings. In this year’s survey, 369 cities were considered for the award. Final 2004 statistics, released by the FBI on October 17, 2005, were used to determine the rankings."

Yeah the problem with that is that those rankings are at least a year old from 2004. So many of those cities could have either inmproved or Got worse. But thats how they been measuring it for years.

The cities are all the "usual suspects", but some of the rankings sort of surpirsed me...

Then something is wrong with the media not mentioning it enough. I know Jersey had madd gangs but I didn't know it was #1 that's kinda crazy.

Do you know what gangs or organizations or whatever the cause of all that is?

Study on dangerous cities may not tell the whole story
Nov 22, 2005, 02:20 PM PST Internet Insider

Morgan Quinto Dangerous City Rankings

In a study released Monday, Morgan Quitno Press ranked Memphis the third most dangerous metropolitan area in the country. But a check of local crime statistics revealed that Memphis may not be as dangerous as people think.

Morgan Quitno took crimes like murder, rape, robbery, burglary, aggravated assault, and motor vehicle theft when compiling their statistics. However, the average Memphian's chance of becoming a murder victim on the streets of Memphis, in a random act of violence, is low.

So far this year there have been 135 homicides. 21 have been ruled justifiable, 10 were gang related, and 19 were domestic violence. Only four murders thus far in 2005 in Memphis appear to be random acts of violence. 23 murders remain unsolved. MPD spokesperson Sgt. Vince Higgins says most murders victims know their assailant.

"Over 98% of our homicides were committed by someone who knew each other, and had a continuing tie, or had some kind of beef," Higgins said.

But for those charged with bringing businesses to Memphis, explaining the rankings is tough.

John Moore of the Memphis Area Chamber of Commerce questioned the Morgan Quitno study, saying they won't share their methodology, and rely on different reporting standards from different cities.

"So it's sort of an apples to oranges comparison in the first place," he said.

Still, he says, it is a comparison he has to defend.

MPD officials also say they are surprised because auto theft and robbery statistics have fallen in recent years.

I did you moron. And it's common knowledge that Afghanistan is the number one supplier. Only a complete idiot would think a US city can produce more then Afghanistan.

Traffic is heavy worldwide, with the biggest producer being Afghanistan, which after years of war and poverty is now an area ripe for opium growing. A 60 Minutes report claims that 87 percent of the world's heroin supply comes from Afghanistan.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heroin_addiction

Afghanistan produces over 70 percent of the global supply of heroin and heroin represents a sizeable fraction of the global narcotics market, estimated by the UN to be of the order of $400-500 billion
