Interesting facts:

1.) From the early 1960's and before, Alameda was the dividing line that Blacks were not allowed to cross to the east in the White suburbs, or else police would arrest them. As you can tell by the map.

2.) In 1940's and 1950's, Blacks in the Historic South Central area just south of Downtown couldn't go south of Slauson into the White areas.

The two major Black areas at the time were Historic South Central (HSC) and Watts. Often Blacks would be afraid to walk from HSC to Watts in fear of being physically and/or verbally attacked by Whites in the area. Slauson to Manchester along Central was a no-go zone. Blacks would usually take the streetcar or motorized transportation.

So what's the story behind this?
Black people leaving and Latino's taking their place, or black people being pushed out by Latino's?
Or black people letting themselves get pushed out?

Mexicans who lived in Watts would get jumped too by whites or cops for crossing into Southgate or Lynwood.

Mexicans occupied a part of Watts called the La Colonia or the Quarter
