what do you know about gangs in the san fernando valley?

Unread postby flyd » November 20th, 2003, 10:41 am

Not many people talk about the San Fernando Valley on this site. Got hoods in almost every city out here; Canoga Park, Reseda, Northridge, Van Nuys, Panorama City, North Hollywood, Winnetka, Pacoima, San Fernando, Mission Hills, Sun Valley, Sylmar, etc.

I don't know about gangs in the area, but i'll throw out some more cities that have hoods that you missed. Encino, Tarzana, Woodland Hills, North Hills, Sunland, Lake View Terrace, Tujunga, Shadow Hills, Arleta, Granada Hills, Chatsworth, Warner Center (near Woodland Hills), Valley Village (near North Hollywood), and I think Sherman Oaks and Porter Ranch have some, but i'm not real sure.

The reason why you dont hear alot about gangs in the SF Valley is because the rate of crime and violence is much different and lower there.

back when i was around sfv in the 90's , the main hoods that were around doing dirt was:

blythe st. in panorama city
barrio van nuys in van nuys
canoga park alabama st. in canoga park
reseda 13 in reseda
mara salvatrucha in north hollywood and sepulveda
asian boyz in van nuys and other areas of sfv
varrio san fer in san fernando
valerio st. in van nuys
pacoima 13 (too manys sets to name) in pacoima and arleta
bryant st. in northridge
langdon st. in sepulveda
vineland boys (violent boys) in sun valley and north hollywood
pacaoima piru in pacoima
whitsett ave. in van nuys and north hollywood area

there were way more black , latino and asian sets all over the place of course but those i listed were the main ones that came to mind that was active. the rest at the time wasn't doing much or new back in the 90's.

the rate is kinda skewed when it comes to the valley because they count it as a whole.

a lot of nice places in sfv like granada hills , tarzana , sherman oaks , encino , chatsworth , etc.

you get to areas like van nuys , north hollywood , panorama city and pacoima and it was pretty bad.

If you take the worst parts of the Valley, and compare them to the worst parts of South LA, there is no comparison. South LA has about 75 percent of all murders that occur in the entire City in an areas that about the same size as the Valley.

I pulled up a map for all murders in 2010 in Los Angeles. That large circle in South LA represents 185 murders, and the circle in Compton was 59 murders. The three circles in the valley represent 37, 15, and 11 murders. Even the East LA / Boyle Heights section represented 88 murders.

Alonso, do you know which city in the valley has the most crime? I always heard that Pacoima was but my homie that used to bang out there in the valley said Panorama City was pretty bad.

well south l.a. definitely has more murders. no argument there. i was just trying to say the crime rate when giving the valley as a whole is kinda skewed by the good neighborhoods.

Yes, the crime rate in the valley is influenced by the middle class neighborhoods that dominate the valley. South LA has very few middle / upper middle class communities.
