The fight for gender equality continues in Hip Hop with a little more art as female emcees climb up the world of battle rap. The emphasis on female rap battles at F.L.A.G. (Fight Like A Girl) events is the brainchild of Bronx emcee Sara Kana.

Kana helped organize PumpkinHead's competition league GrindTimeNow for four years, gaining notice for booking female emcees, and used that experience to launch her own Barz & Brastrapz in 2012. But that doesn't mean her supporters are exclusively female. Kana has since laid claim to arranging the "1st ever top tier intergender battle" with Ms. Hustle versus O-Red in Queen of the Ring, garnering over 300,000 hits since its appearance on YouTube last Fall. Recalling the battle gave her a laugh. In an interview with HipHopDX, Kana said, “There’s a lot of girls that can really spit like dudes and they get it in just like dudes because that’s what they’ve seen.”
