Hell no they would'nt....that kind of behavior would earn a person some bumps and bruises. I trip when I read how in other states people get away with stuff like the above.

Is what as bad? The police brutality? If thats what you mean...I think that they get away w/an awful lot. When they put you in that car and they take you downtown and you are in their world...they can do basically whatever they want and its all about....PROVE IT. Which of course 9 xs out of 10 a person doesnt have a chance in hell of doing. They will lie on you and whose going to believe an inmate over a bunch of cops???

Yeah the brutality and corruption part. Is it still on a wide scale?

I mean I thought that they might have decided to change some policies due to the riots.

No...there has been relatively little change...the "Code of Silence" is still alive and well. Once in a while officers do manage to get "caught" in the act of violating a suspects rights...and they are made examples for the sole benefit of public image. Other than that...they get away with a grip of sh*t. Don't get me wrong...I am not saying allll officers are like this, but in my opinion, more are definitely than are not.

I read that the LAPD precinct in Compton was shut down and the LASD had to take over. Why?

The LAPD never had a station in Compton. Compton had their own police department before the Sheriff's Department took over.

Oops sorry. I read that on Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Los_Angele ... Department

Why would Compton have its own Police force if its inside LA? Why wouldnt LAPD just patrol there?

And why did the Sheriffs department take over?

Compton isn’t inside the City of Los Angeles, it is inside the County of Los Angeles. The City of Los Angeles has no control over Compton because they are both cities inside the County of Los Angeles. L.A. County contains 88 cities with the City of L.A. being the largest. All cities in L.A. County control their own areas and can’t interfere in the affairs of other cities.
A Ghost wrote: And why did the Sheriffs department take over?
I’m not sure, but I think it was because Compton couldn’t afford to maintain its own police department.

There are a few city's within L.A. County that have their own PD. I am in Long Beach which is in L.A. County and we have our own PD.

Go here to read about what happened re: Compton PD

The Compton Police Dept was about as corrupt as they come. Like I said...being from L.A. and seeing articles like the above...how much more tolerant these police are, blows my mind.

So what was Rampart? Was that another different part of the city?

I heard they were basically stealing money from dealers.

You are welcome! Rampart is a division within the LAPD. Long Beach cops are crooked too like that. I could tell you some stor-ies....but I won't here.

Would you consider talking to them?
