Do Blacks dispute that Mexicans originated LA gang culture??

These concepts are socially constructed and have been given much weight. What are your thoughts?

End of story.
Exactly, couldn't have said it better!

SUCH AS WHAT? I mean were blacks banging red/blue/lowriding and stacking/ and getting inked in , in chicano fashion in the South>?(((((((28.5 million African Americans live there!)))) Is their black gangs with as much history as the youngest gangs in East Los? Growing up I saw ZERO black influence amongst chicanos. In fact I wrongly believed that only mexicans had tattoos period. I would travel across Los Angelos and across Califas and Id see a few whites/with inkwork but usually it was hugely ripped off of chicano styles and more then likely done by a chicano in prison.

There are (2) undergound American cultures. Chicano and East Coast black. We constantly borrow from eachother but lets not forget who started beatboxing/breakdancing/tagging/ pop locking/and much more and lets also not forget who started lowriding/inking in and developing the WORLDS undergound form of tattoing and artwork. Chicanos gave NOTHING to rap and RNB and SOUL and JAZZ and GOSPEL and the whole dance scene of the 80s-90s and before. Those chicano soul singers and others whove tried to bring a latino twist to a black thing have made some hits and have sounded good at times but ITS A BLACK THING THRU AND THRU! just like the crips and bloods are nothing but cholo imitators!

If you guys use computers, german cars or use a telephone you have to ask me for permission.
They were invented by germans. Stop using them without filing a permission request form.

Perongregory-

who is saying that chicanos mimick blacks well..........just browse this forum where this single thread had faulty info! Just listen to ICE CUBE give an interview where he says the black gang look was a look used by poverty stricken blacks........the dickies/chucks/white ts/pendletons/charlie browns/stacys/on and on and on.

Wouldnt that be stealing when a black artist such as CUBE says that blacks merely wore those clothes because they had no money without even acknowledging where they really got it! CHICANOS.

Wouldnt it be stealing when JR SMITH whom has probably NEVER EVER MET a chicano is sporting the chicano chain? When MAINO from New York is wearing our inkwork? WAK from Georgia sporting our tattoo styles?

None of these fools even know where the shit came from YET DESPITE this they wear it! How obstructionist! Dare a chicano ever sport some cornrolls and not get called a buster! Why no pulling these blacks whove never lived in a barrio cards? I mean it didnt originate with your people. It didnt start in New York-ATL-or JR SMITHS hometown. You dont see that it is disrespectful.

When I see these ninjas I see a wannabee ESE.

On a sidenote.

Germany has had gangs dating as far back as the 1890s.

Just because it is not known about, doesnt mean it didnt exist.

NO DUH? their been gangs all thru history -WHAT IVE SAID IS THAT..........CHICANOS have invented MODERN GANG CULTURE-MODERN!@ The dickies/bandanas/the style of tattooing/writing/placements/the street art/the stacking/lowriding/flannel banging/ everything that is modern American and worldwide street gang culture is MEXICAN.

WORLDWIDE> I saw a documentary/pictures the other day of Arab gangs in France and the entire demeanor was MEXICAN AMERICAN. They were sporting all our INKWORK. Which mind you had NEVER EVER been done ANYWHERE in the world. NEVER had been seen ANYWHERE else outside of OUR BARRIOS.

Blacks REALLY have brought nothing and most of their gangs outside of Los Angelos are representative of black gangs nationwide.

COPYING. COPYING> COPYING.

All this talk from blacks about mexicans rapping well we got Samoans/WHites/Blacks dresssing/faking and taking /sporting our styles and sporting our ink. IMITATION is the highest form of flattery !

Do pray tell me what modern gang culture even has remotely similiar to what MULTI GENERATIONAL 100 year old mexican gangs from Los Angelos HAVE?

There you go lying your ass off LIKE ALWAYS! Heres what we have invented MODERN WORLDWIDE STREET STYLES. What did Germans/Europeans bring to what chicano gangs have set as the worlds street culture! Go to any tattoo shop in the world and youll see how far our art has travelled. An art mind you that didnt start 100 miles away from Los Angelos in native Mexico but under the racism committed against my people who sought an identity in a foreign land. Under these circumstances BLACKS-WHITES-SAMAONS DO NOT.....get to wear our art and styles without acknowledging why and how it started.

Thousands of young chicanos were cogs in a racist wheel -thousands doing life framed-set up and built to failure by a society that sought to strip them of their pride and manhood. Thru it all in a dysfunctional way we made a culture up complete with language/art/signs etc............BOO-YA tribe and bowwow and whoever the hell else doesnt just get to sport our identifiers without acknowledging THAT!!!!!!!!!!

All this talk about who invented what. Unless you have some historical proof your opinion dont mean shit but an opinion. No offense to Latinos but I read a lot of BS here and frankly, I am assuming its not coming from college educsted latinos. Why did I mention collrge? Well my friends college expands on the basic shit you learn on the streets which may be false. All this "yeah Mexicans invited this or that" did you invite some for humans? Thats the question

@mayuga. take it easy kiddo. I dont want problems with the godfather and ceo of west coast gang culture.
I dont want you to have someone E-drive by me.

But where do you have the art of tattoing and the Old English letters from, that Chicanos incorporated their own style into? You still didnt clear that up for us.

Exactly, he stole it from them & wants it for himself! LOL I forgot he never banged or barely noticed an old post where he admits he never did, but yet admitted he had what he would call "cholo lite" style. OK, so what is it now "Latino style"? So it's ok if you're Latino to dress "cholo lite", but not if you're black? Also funny how he claims nortenos are as old as eme, if not older. Like I asked: "Who laced up his boots, some "Northern Surenos"?

This is backwards...

Read carefully. Black gangs which were considered "clubs" evolved in what we know as the crips (and the bloods coming thereafter) black gangs evolved from the 60's. Pachucos came from the 60's two entirely different gang culture. Blacks had their own style of dress. If you are so good at history before you say black borrowed Mexican gang culture find out what were blacks wearing, using that was borrowed. In the early 60's L.A was predominantly black (pre/post white flight).

The zoot suit was popular, but it was also a common dress on the East and as far as I recall in Harlem it was a style of dress among blacks. Again how did blacks borrow clothing from hispanics. Black bangers dont wear plaid t-shirts with the bottom buttoned at the top like hispanics, or tuck in their shirts so I ask you how do black bangers borrow what hispanics do?

Again two entirely different cultures of gang, but oeiginating around the same time......

Even modern gangsters dont copy hispanics. Some bangers dont rock their flag especially with gang injunctions. Your proof fails

XXX,

You said these rappers werent copying mexicans? I mean we got a video here that explains alot of the inkwork and its origins (CHOLOS). This is the biggest part of chicano culture. The biggest. Its worldwide and your people until videos like this half way joking admit to it. You go to any store and youll find our style of tattooing on shirts/beanies/pants pockets/ed hardy/skateboards and all over non-mexican bodies. YET YOU HAVE THE NERVE TO SAY THEY AINT COPYING??

SOMEHOW....................500,000 blacks in and around Los Angelos are completely different then 37 million blacks nationwide? 25 million blacks in the South didnt come up with getting inked in/wearing dickies/flannels/bandanas and driving lowlows? The 25 million blacks in the southern states still dont have anything similiar to what Los Angelos blacks have for gang culture////////culture mind you they developed by changing up the cholo style to fit black people. But get this the ink-look-life belongs to us. Their aint ANYTHING at all original about los angelos blacks. You bringing up the 1960s like its the start of gang culture ........mind you !!!! their aint hardly a gang in East Los Angelos that started in the 1960s or after! ALMOST ALL the gangs in ELA started in the 1920s. Just about every varrio I grew up around claims to have started in the 1890s. These gangs didnt disappear---------you drive by tonight and youll see maravillas/white fencers/opals/gerahtys/jardins out in full force ACTIVE like the day they started in the early 1900s! I got neighbors who are 80 years old who got white fence across their necks.

I think all everyone is trying to say is that you're exaggerating just a lil stank. Of course there is Chicano influence in a lot of places stank, but you can't seem to admit that maybe you exaggerate just a lil..

MMRB~~

So just what is the skating scene and where did it start? The film Lords of Dogtown......tells the beginings of the skater movement and style of dress in America. The Zephyr skateboard team took the symbols of the Venice 13 and other chicanos around them and came up with a revolutionary style of dress. The copied the ink/swag/clothing of young chicanos. I have attached a video of them speaking on the subject and how they came to be so "different". REMEMBER : skateboarding wa not popular in America TILL this group of kids , gave white America a style of dress/and showed them chicano culture. To make it easy on you go from 9:03-10:01. The rundown.

Listen Carefully where the whiteboys say " WE DIDNT GROW UP AROUND BUFFY, we grew around cholos-lowriders-chicanos, we took their style of dress"
