Starring DMX and David Arquette, I thought it was a good movie, what are your thoughts on it?

Tuco's answer :

The book by Donald Goines is awesome, but the movie's not good. Ernest Dickerson, the director, and James Gibson, the screenwriter, took all the essence of the book and threw it away. The book is very dark and very cerebral (close to Iceberg Slim's roughness and Edward Bunker's spirit) but they made it look like another DMX action vehicle. It's a shame. The Never Die Alone project is very old. The first director who wanted to adapt it was Abel Ferrara, with Larry Fishburne as King David, in the early nineties (after Bad Lieutenant). But from Ferrara's own words : "Nobody wanted to do it. My script was very close to the novel, but nobody wanted to do it. They thought it was too dark, too violent and too immoral". To me, Ferrara would have been a much more better choice to make Never Die Alone. He would have done a much more 'down-to-earth' adaptation of the book, loaded with heavy drama, instead of a stylish video clip with no emotion.
