Jonathan Fajardo, who was convicted of 2006 murders, killed in San Quentin

Unread postby alexalonso » October 5th, 2018, 7:28 pm

Jonathan Fajardo, was convicted of killing Christopher Ash, a 204th Street gang member who was killed because fellow gang members believed he was a “snitch” regarding the murder of 14-year-old Cheryl Green who Jonathan also killed in 2006. Jonathan was sentenced to Death to San Quentin Prison. The CDC said that Luis Rodriguez, 34, killed Jonathan today, October 5, 2018 in San Quentin.

The last killing on San Quentin's death row was in 1997 of Jimmy "The Character" Palma who was involved in the Maxson murders in El Monte in 1995. It is extremely rare for a death row inmate to get stabbed and killed so I wonder what happened in the break down of security on death row. Also, how did the suspect make a shank and then be able to conceal that shank. Additionally, you have to be able to make a quality shank to be able to kill someone, and in most instances, death row inmates do not have access to those sorts of materials. Very interesting that this occurred. Have no idea what the motive could be either.

An inmate facing a death sentence for killing a 14-year-old girl was stabbed to death Friday morning while in the recreation yard of San Quentin State Prison, authorities said.

Jonathan Fajardo, 30, who was on death row for first-degree-murder in connection with the racially charged shooting death of Cheryl Green in Los Angeles, was stabbed in his chest and neck in the East Block Housing Unit recreation yard just before 10 a.m., according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

He was pronounced dead at 10:34 a.m. Friday, officials said.

Luis Rodriguez, 34, was identified by prison officials as the suspect in Fajardo’s fatal stabbing. Officials said Rodriguez, who is on death row, made the weapon used in the attack. Officials did not immediately release a potential motive in the stabbing.

The San Quentin’s Investigative Services Unit is investigating the attack.

Fajardo was initially admitted to the Marin County prison from Los Angeles County on May 2, 2011, after receiving a death sentence for two counts of first-degree murder with “special circumstances,” officials said.

The Los Angeles Times reported in 2010 that Fajardo had opened fire on a group of people in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Harbor Gateway in 2006 because they were black. Local police believed the attack, and others like it carried out by members of a majority-Latino gang he was presumed to be a member of, targeted black people purely because of their race.

Prison officials said Rodriguez was facing a death sentence on two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances at the time of the Friday’s attack. He started his sentence on September 30, 2015.

Officials did not immediately release any information regarding potential charges that may be lodged against Rodriguez in the stabbing.

San Quentin houses 4,398 inmates and employs 1,870 people. Officials said there are currently 742 criminals on California’s death row.

I just love how these honkys twist the story up, just to clarify this before someone comes in here spouting some racist shit, the 208st crip gang actually shot at these guys, varrio 204st, but the media loves to leave that part out to put a racial twist in this, so in relation, varrio 204st went into 208st crip's turf and let loose on a group of them standing outside, cheryl green just happened to get hit in the cross fire, they didnt specifically target her to be killed, she was just at the wrong place at the wrong time..

Not sure what hood he is from, but this is what we know about him. Luis Rodriguez was admitted to California Prison from Los Angeles County on Aug. 22, 2008, to serve a life-with-parole sentence for first-degree murder. While incarcerated, he was sentenced to death in Los Angeles County on Sept. 21, 2015, for two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances. He began serving his death sentence on Sept. 30, 2015.

Luis Rodriguez was convicted of a few murders, but he was convicted of this one in 2007. Luis was from Varrio Paramount in the City of Paramount.

Salvador Avila Jr., 19

Posted June 24, 2007, 2 a.m.

Salvador Avila Jr., 19, suffered multiple gunshot wounds at 8454 Alondra Blvd. in Paramount, and died at 2 a.m. Sunday, June 24.

According to Sheriff's Det. Ray Lugo, Avila was a high school graduate from Compton who had just gone to the local Tam's that night for some food. A friend he was with got into a fight with other Latino men at the Tam's, and was knocked unconscious. Avila went over--not to fight--but to help his friend, Lugo said. He tried to pulled the unconscious man of the ground and get him to a car. As he was doing so, he was shot.

Update: Sheriff's homicide detectives Lugo and Sgt. Joe Ramirez have cleared this case. Arrested were Luis Rodriguez, 24, and Adrian Chavez, 27, both of whom fought with the friend. Rodriguez, who prosecutors say was the shooter, is also charged in a double murder in Paramount.

Chavez and Rodriguez were identified as suspects in the Avila case about two days before Rodriguez is suspected to have killed the additional victims of the Paramount double murder. Police had Rodriguez in their sites--internal flyers had circulated in station houses about him--but deputies were not able to find him in time. He is accused of murdering Julio Ramirez and Benjamin Velasco on July 28, a little more than a month after Avila's murder. He was caught a few days after that, now with three suspected murders in his wake.

Luis Rodriguez was also convicted of a double murder that occurred in Paramount in 2007 but he was convicted for it in 2015.

Gang member sentenced to death for 2007 double slaying

By Jerome Campbell

Posted Oct. 15, 2015, 6:45 p.m.

A 32-year-old man was sentenced to death Sept. 21 for killing two rival gang members in 2007, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney's office.

In February, a jury found Luis Jesus Rodriguez, who is Latino, guilty of two counts of first-degree murder for fatally shooting two men — Benjamin Velasco, 19, and Julio Ramirez, 21 — outside a family gathering in Paramount.

Jurors also found true allegations that the killings were committed to further the activities of a criminal street gang and that Rodriguez had been previously convicted of first-degree murder.

Rodriguez’s brother Daniel Cowie was convicted in 2009 and sentenced in 2010 to 40 years to life in prison for driving the getaway vehicle.

Irvin Heredia, who was a passenger in the car, pleaded guilty and was sentenced for manslaughter in 2009. He was sentenced to 11 years in prison.

On July 28, 2007, Rodriguez, a documented Paramount Barrio gang member, armed himself with an AK-47 and had Cowie drive him and Heredia in a white pickup truck to the neighborhood of a rival gang, authorities said.

Rodriguez stopped outside a home where Velasco and Ramirez were attending a family gathering. Rodriguez got out of the car, and began shooting. He shot Velasco first, in front of family and friends, then turned around and shot Ramirez as he tried to run away, authorities said.

Rodriguez then got back in the truck and it fled. Velasco and Ramirez were taken to the hospital where both died the next day.

On July 31, 2007, authorities arrested Rodriguez in connection with the fatal shooting of Salvador Avila Jr., 19. On June 24, 2007, Avila was shot while trying to help a friend who was in a fight at a Tam’s restaurant. Avila, who was also known as Salvador Deavila, was killed about half a mile from the double shooting.

Rodriguez was convicted of Avila’s killing in 2008 and sentenced to 50 years to life in state prison.
